Tony is a well known entrepreneur, both in Ireland and Internationally, in the Wireless Industry. Having worked for Motorola in the early days, he and his business partner, Michael McGinley, established Sigma Wireless thirty years ago and it is one of Ireland’s market leading Wireless Equipment providers.
Tony has been there for the full range of Wireless Industry developments, from TACS to GSM and now 5G LTE Private networks. He relates an interesting story about the initial projection of sales for Mobile Phones versus what actually happened.
Sigma Wireless is still innovating today and runs a very interesting mission critical network using TETRA technology used by the Public Services across the country.
Tony also gives his thoughts on what made the Sigma Team successful and on where the new innovations in the Wireless Industry will be.
We really enjoyed having Tony on the Podcast and to learn about his ability to reinvent his companies and keep them relevant in the Wireless Industry.

We’re delighted to have Drew O’Sullivan on the Podcast this week. Drew is well known in the Start Up ecosystem in Ireland and Europe
He has achieved many things throughout his career but summarises his work mainly as Investor, Advisor and Mentor.
Currently Drew is working with Intertrade Ireland and the European Angel Fund / European Investment Bank.
If you know Drew, I think you’ll know you will get an informed and experienced opinion - and that’s what you get here. As he says himself he can be a little blunt but it makes for very interesting listening.
We cover three main Start Up topics, the first is Company Valuation, the second is what makes Start Up teams work and Drew has some very interesting thoughts on that. The third is a topic that is rarely well thought through and that is Product or Service pricing in the market as a Start Up.
I found that Drew’s insights are often against the current conventional wisdom and that makes them more interesting.
You’ll have to forgive two things in this podcast, one is my chesty voice and the second is the interruption by my dog – but I left that in as its amusing.
Otherwise, this is a great podcast covering important topics for Start Up companies looking for investment, wondering what makes their team work and how they should look at pricing their products.

One of Ireland’s most successful writers is Roddy Doyle, who wrote about the fictional Dublin Family, the Rabbittes. These are the famous Barrytown Trilogy of “The Commitments”, “The Snapper” and “The Van”. All of these were made into films that are at once, both funny and poignant.

Sometimes you meet someone who surprises you by their personality, their achievements and their vision – and we definitely have such a person on this podcast.
I’m delighted to present the remarkable, Tumi Frazier, who having been raised in a poor township in South Africa, by her own self will and education, is now an International Social Entrepreneur making a difference in South Africa and the USA.
Tumi Frazier works with female entrepreneurs in Africa to help them move from survivalist entrepreneurs to building high earning and scalable businesses that create employment in the continent.
She also is working with Corporations in the USA to help promote diversity in hiring and promotion, using technology to analyse their hiring and promotion patterns and to adjust their policies to increase the range of minorities who can contribute to the company’s growth.
Tumi talks about how she was helped through her High School and University Education by building relationships with supportive mentors.

We have a very interesting guest this week with Paul McBride. Paul is a co-founder and MD of Peroptyx and an also an expert on localising Machine Learning to different markets.
This is an important area of AI and Machine Learning that I certainly wasn’t aware of previously. You can see why software that is sold Globally needs to be the language of the country that it is being sold into. But, when you think about it, if the software is Machine Learning, then the AI Machine, needs to be trained to not only the language, but also culture and User Experience appropriate to that country or culture.
Paul talks about how his company, Peroptyx, enables this service for AI / ML Software, enabling culturally appropriate AI and removing any biases.
Paul also talks about setting up a Global Software company in rural and beautiful County Mayo. Peroptyx is a a great example of the benefits of the National Broadband program.
