What was the first SMS sent in Japan? Well, you can find out here.
As part of our series, talking with key players in the development of the SMS Industry, we have a fun and insightful podcast with Paul Rogers who pioneered the development of the Asian Market for Logica Aldiscon.
Paul tells us some great stories about the learning and the doing that made the company so successful in Asia. He talks about the team effort and the enthusiasm of the people who went to all parts of Asia and also all the local employees across the region who made such a difference.
Some of these stories are funny, some are darker, but all are about building trust with Customers across the region.
Finally, Paul finishes on a personal story about music and plays out with a great, if little, known piece that means something to him.
Check out the great image on the Show Card.

We have a very interesting guest this week with Paul McBride. Paul is a co-founder and MD of Peroptyx and an also an expert on localising Machine Learning to different markets.
This is an important area of AI and Machine Learning that I certainly wasn’t aware of previously. You can see why software that is sold Globally needs to be the language of the country that it is being sold into. But, when you think about it, if the software is Machine Learning, then the AI Machine, needs to be trained to not only the language, but also culture and User Experience appropriate to that country or culture.
Paul talks about how his company, Peroptyx, enables this service for AI / ML Software, enabling culturally appropriate AI and removing any biases.
Paul also talks about setting up a Global Software company in rural and beautiful County Mayo. Peroptyx is a a great example of the benefits of the National Broadband program.
If you’re in the AI / ML business and you sell Internationally, then you will be interested in this Podcast.

The Innovative or Creative process can take many forms and this week we are talking with someone who is at the centre of a number of Artistic worlds.
We have a fascinating guest with Richard Scobie. I don’t think that I have met such a multi-talented man previously, if Richard doesn’t mind me saying so. Richard, in his career, has been a successful Musician, Composer, Screen Writer, Director, Voice Over Artist and Teacher – among other things.
We talk about Richard’s career touring Europe with a Rock band and then also his career in Hollywood as a Screen Writer.
What I found interesting is Richard’s insights on the creative process of Screen Writing and how he works to bring his ideas to life.
And we also play out with Richard’s new Single which has just been released and its an energy filled song that you will enjoy.
This is a lively and fun podcast and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we had recording it.
Spoiler Alert: We have a good discussion about Breaking Bad revealing plot details if you haven’t seen it.

We’re delighted to have Bill Dudley, evangelist at Sinch, on the Podcast this week. Bill is a pioneer and evangelist of the SMS Industry in North America and he talks about his Mobile career back to his early experiments with Mobile Data.
Bill and I have both lived in two great US States that we share a fondness for.
Bill was instrumental in pushing for SMS Interconnect in North America in the early days of his career– something that we take for granted now. Having joined Inphomatch, who were early interconnect pioneers, he’s still with the company after many corporate iterations and the company is now part of Sinch – who are a major player in CPaaS and Omni Channel marketing.
Bill talks about the mistakes that RCS made in the past but believes that with Google behind it that it has a great future. Bill explains the value proposition that Sinch brings to Enterprises and how SMS still has an important part to play.
Finally Bill reveals his very interesting hobby and he plays out with a piece of music that shows he hasn’t strayed too far from his Texas roots.

This week we have a slight change of pace and we’re looking a major environmental issue, that is, the quality of water in Dublin Bay.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Gerry Jones for many years and he’s well known as a successful Investor, Chairman and Director, over a wide range of Technology businesses.
But Gerry, through his personal interest and that of his family, and with a group of other concerned citizens, became involved in Citizen Activism after finding out about the poor quality of water in Dublin Bay.
The story is very interesting, about how the group discovered flaws in the monitoring of water quality in Dublin Bay and that there is still a large amount of sewage flowing into the Bay during times of heavy rainfall.
Gerry and the SOS Dublin Bay team are shining a spotlight on the problem and he updates us on what they have done, in terms of short terms fixes and also to help move the Political establishment and Authorities to focus on the issue.
This podcast shows how concerned citizens can help make a difference to everyone’s lives.

We’re delighted to have a legend in the Telecoms industry on the Podcast this week, with Joe Cunningham as our guest. Joe, along with Larry Quinn and Gilbert Little, co-founded a succession of successful Telecoms companies and sold them on.
The companies include, Aldiscon. Apion. Aepona, Accuris, and only sold last week, Ammeon.
The experience that people build when working in these companies led them, in turn, to go on and to found dozens of other companies, many of them still with us today.
Joe recounts how Aldiscon got into SMS in the very early days and how this was the start of a now $200 Billion Industry. Funnily, he tells how Aldiscon helped, what turned out to be its later biggest competitor, CMG, build an SMSC in the early days.
You can see in this fascinating story how the traits of great Entrepreneurship are exhibited, such as responding to failure with pivots, tenacity, patience and a focus on building great teams and delivering great products.
Finally Joe finishes off with his thoughts on where the future opportunities are and he plays out with a beautiful song. I know you’ll enjoy this podcast as much as we did recording it.
